On July 13th, we will gather for our next CODINGBERLIN meetup on the sunny VOTUM roof terrace in Berlin-Kreuzberg. This time, we want to talk about DevOps.

We have 3 free speaker slots for everyone who wants to share his/her knowledge with the rest of us. Feel free to choose what aspect in the field of DevOps you want to talk about! Each talk should clock in at around 20-25 minutes. The form of your presentation is up to you. You can speak freely or use our screen to view slides or other materials you might want to show us.

Topic of our first talk by Stefan Adolf (Check24): Deploying Symfony2 applications on Heroku: never mind your metal.

Deploying PHP applications on dynamic infrastructures always had been a struggle but became a lot easier over the past years thanks to highly configurable frameworks. I’ll demonstrate how to deploy a non-trivial application including its frontend assets onto Heroku PaaS using a dual buildpack setup and point out some important addons you're most likely going to need and compare Heroku’s solution with other cloud infrastructure providers.

Topic of our second talk by Boris Nikolaus Betzholz (S&B Applications UG):

For our workflow at S&B Applications UG, we host the projects during development in our infrastructure. With these we have some issues and troubles. This talk will show our solution for hosting many solutions on standard Ubuntu server with plesk. We use Gitlab (+CI) to deploy branches to Docker. We maintain Docker via portainer.io and have reverse proxies for some master branches (nicer URLs).

Lasst uns über DevOps reden!

Am 13. Juli findet das nächste CODINGBERLIN Meetup auf der sonnigen VOTUM-Dachterrasse in Berlin-Kreuzberg statt. Dieses Mal geht es um das Thema „DevOps“.

Wir haben drei freie Slots für Freiwillige, die ihr Wissen mit uns teilen wollen. Ihr könnt frei wählen, zu welchem Aspekt von DevOps ihr etwas vortragen möchtet. Die Dauer eines Vortrags sollte bei 20-25 Minuten liegen. Bei der Gestaltung eurer Präsentation habt ihr freie Hand – ihr könnt frei reden oder auch gerne unseren Screen für Slides oder sonstige Elemente verwenden.

PHP-Applikationen auf dynamischen Infrastrukturen auszurollen war lange Zeit kein leichtes Unterfangen, wurde aber dank dynamisch konfigurierbarer Frameworks wie Symfony2 deutlich vereinfacht.  Ich zeige in diesem Talk, wie man eine nichttriviale Applikation mit Hilfe eines kombinierten Buildpacks einschließlich ihrer Frontend-Assets auf Heroku PaaS ausrollt und demonstriere die Anbindung einiger bedeutender Add-Ons.

Bei der S&B Applications UG benötigen wir eine automatische Deploymentstrecke auf eigener Serverlandschaft. Dabei haben wir immer wieder Probleme und Sorgen gehabt. Nach einigen Versuchen bauen wir aktuell einen Verbund von Gitlab/CI und Docker, der auf Push bestimmte Branches containert. Zur Docker-Verwaltung nutzen wir portainer.io und für besondere branches (die an Kunden rausgehen) richten wir im Plesk reverse Proxies ein.
