coding portugal chapter #1: Porto

Tue, April 9, 2019
5:30 PM UTC

This meetup starts around 6:30pm with a short intro round: who are we, who are you and what are we doing here?! Then we're hearing 2-3 talks (a 30min) about different developer related topics:

Talk #1 Denis Brumann (Sensio Labs): Symfony HttpClient and PSR-18 - An introduction

Together with Mime the HttpClient is the newest Symfony component which can be used both in a Symfony app or as a standalone component. In hist talk Denis showcases the component, compares it with other popular http-client libraries and explains PSR-18, an HTTP-Client specification.

Talk #2 Stefan Adolf (Turbine Kreuzberg): The Smart Shelf - api-platform in an IoT context

After spending hours on manually taking care of our beverage inventory we kicked off an internal project to equip a “Kanban” shelf with ESP32s and laser distance sensors. The result is a “smart” shelf that takes care of its content on its own and automatically can place orders. Stefan demonstrates the whole story, from sensor setup, the MQTT communication layer, a gateway component and the api-platform based backend that allowed us to scaffold a GraphQL API with realtime updates on an Apollo/Vue frontend in no time.

If you would like to give a (lightning) talk or want to contribute anything that might be of interest for developers, we'd love to hear from you :) We're especially looking for contributions by the local community, so if you're developing software in Porto, make sure to take your chance and we'll reserve a third slot just for you!

During the breaks there's lots of room to talk about what you heard and discuss the presented concepts. If there's room for it and the talk topics are somewhat correlated, we're sometimes setting up a "speaker" panel with an AMA for the audience.

All speakers are advised to prepare their talks in a way that also beginners can follow them easily - but since this is called a "coding" meetup it's definitely helpful to have a little experience in software development.

All contributions follow our golden "*1 line of code*" rule, so demos and live code will be abound. You don't have to register to get into our stream but if you do, we send you updates (and nothing else) like the final YouTube URL of the stream before the event.
